getting there . . .

Well it wasn't pretty, that's for sure. I climbed my way into the corner of the yarn room to take the photo above, while Brett looked on in dismay. But we took it one thing at a time—and made much use of the hallway outside—to battle the piles.
We found lots of old, buried projects, which we will be sending back to Coats & Clark, who keep those archives. We kept a few things to have around, though, like the crab (it's too funny!), and the lacy river rocks (paperweights!), and the graphic granny 'ghan (you know how cold offices can get).
And we found a LOT of yarn. So much yarn that we don't need, in fact, that we filled two ENORMOUS garbage bags of it. I'm not talking the normal black garbage bags you might use in your trash cans in the garage. I'm talking about industrial-size bags that I swear are taller than me before you fill them up. But never fear! We are not throwing all this yarn away. We are hoping to sort through it a bit and you just may be the lucky winners of batches of this yarn. But that will be another day . . .
Because we're still not done. But it's surely better than it was!

storage
Submitted by cosibar on Tue, 2010-01-26 14:01.Wow and double wow! nice work. I just love that cabinet... is there any info you can give us so we can find one like that? I have been looking for a way to store my yarn but there isn't a lot of options in cubbies and stackabels, etc., that wont kill your mad money account and leave you with nothing to buy more yarn with.
thanks a bunch!
IKEA to the rescue
Submitted by erin on Wed, 2010-01-27 08:45.Ikea has a lot of great storage solutions, and I recommend the Expedit line, which is a bunch of open cubbies that you can get bins or other storage for (or leave open).

Yarn Stash
Submitted by yarnmom on Fri, 2009-10-23 08:08.Your before and after pictures have given me inspirtation. I fear I have many boxes of yarn lurking in my basement that I haven't seen in years (besides all the boxes upstairs). How do you organize your patterns/works in progress?
In my Future
Submitted by Chrismhen on Wed, 2009-10-07 09:48.I get the feeling that this is what my boyfriend and my family expects that I'll have to do one day for all of the yarn I keep collecting. Some of what I have now I have bought, but a large amount of it was given to me, I think some of it might possibly be older than me too!

yarn organization ideas
Submitted by mypersonalartist on Tue, 2009-10-06 08:19.I color code my yarn on my shelf, and I slip a bounce sheet under the yarn on each shelf( to give it a fresh scent), I try to make it pretty just like a yarn shop- that's where I get my organizing ideas from, it helps inspire me to look into my own "stash shop" first when picking colors for new projects.

The same I have :)
Submitted by Daniela699 on Tue, 2009-10-06 04:10.It's funny to see the second picture, because when I was thinking where to put all my stash, I've chosen the same furniture in the same color to display it neatly :)(here in Czech Rep). And yes, I have it full full of yarn balls as well. :)
Wow!
